Leuluai Financial is Founded on the ideology of our parents doing what they did and making the choices they made so that we might enjoy a better life than they did, we adopted this same ideology. Leuluai Financials’ purpose and vision is ‘for a better life’.
Alan has been in the insurance industry for over 30 years, beginning his career as a tied agent with Royal & Sun Alliance in 1988. Shortly after that Alan branched out on his own to better serve his family and the people of his community. In 1996 ATL Insurance Services Ltd was founded, owned by Alan & Rosalie Leuluai. Alan spent those years honing his expertise and servicing hundreds of home loans and insurance policies.
ATL Insurance Services Ltd has evolved over the years and now trades as Leuluai Financial, moving from a single adviser business with a personal assistant, to a team of seven working to build our dream of assisting our people to ‘choose their future for a better life’. A life founded on financial security, health and wellbeing, with protection from financial risk and adversity.
It is our desire to help all New Zealanders enjoy a better life through financial security by enabling families to buy a home, and insuring their family, lifestyle and future. ALAN LEULUAI
Our Senior advisor with 33 years of experience has helped insure many families as well as helping them into their own homes. He holds a black belt in Shaolin Kung Fu, but his favourite title is Grandfather.
In 1950, both of my parents arrived in New Zealand as part of a much needed migrant labour force to meet the needs of expanding industry. They later met, fell in love, married and settled in Papatoetoe buying a home. I was told the reasons for leaving their beautiful islands of Samoa included, better job opportunities, steady income allowing them to support family back in the islands and because they wanted a better life for their children.
As the youngest in the family I learned from all my role-models, the importance of hard work (on and off the rugby league field), being wise with your money, getting an education, and looking after the aiga.
After finishing High School my first full time job was as a clerk with The Housing Corporation, later named Housing New Zealand. It was there at the age of 17 I entered my name into a ballot to buy a 600sqm2 section in Manukau and was one of the winners. At the time I was saving up to buy my first decent car, a Ford Cortina. But advice from the Head Valuer resonated “you can buy a car anytime, but this section will be worth its weight in GOLD in a few years’ time!” The decision was easy. I took the money I was saving for the deposit and brought the section. Housing Corporation loaned the balance owing…and I carried on catching the bus to work!
At 19 years of age I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and decided to serve a fulltime proselyting mission. I needed to fund this two year mission as well as cover mortgage payments so I took a promotion in New Plymouth which placed me in an area where I found work in a different sector and tripled my income providing the necessary funds.
In 1986 I returned home from my mission, met my wife and we married in 1988. Soon after that I entered the financial industry as a tied insurance agent to Royal and Sun Alliance, sold the section I purchased, and used the funds as a deposit for our first home. After a few years we used the equity from our first home to invest in our first investment property. Many other investment properties were purchased using the equity as well as business opportunities that came our way.
In 1996 I took the knowledge and experience gained from my foray into property investment and selling life, risk and protection insurance and started my own company, ATL Insurance Services Ltd. I have enjoyed a total of over 30 years combined experience assisting others as I provide financial advice on insurances, mortgages, KiwiSaver and wealth creation through property investment.
I enjoy being a husband, father and grandfather. I believe in the power of setting goals and continuing to better myself. This mindset has helped me earn a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Shaolin Kung Fu in 2017, graduating from The Australian Institute of Business with a Master of Business Administration degree 2020, and in honing leadership skills as I have served in Ward and Stake leadership positions within the church.
I’m living proof. If I can do it, you can too! It just takes what I call the DSA Law - Determination, Sacrifice and Action!

While playing rugby league over in the UK it was always on my mind to think about life after footy!
I had big influences around me who were also playing rugby league in the UK, my brother Thomas and cousin Kylie. Both would remind me to plan for life after footy. Of greatest influence though was my father James. He had a stellar footy career playing in Aussie, the UK and representing NZ at international level. He paved the way for us on the field and off the field. Getting me into property at a young age and reminding me to prepare for the future. Education was big for my father sending me and my younger brother to St Kentigern College and me later going on to Otahuhu College to further my rugby league aspirations. While in high school I took accounting as a subject and later carried this on in the UK gaining my Level 4 AAT diploma in accounting.
The old saying of ‘Rugby League doesn’t last forever’ was always on the back of my mind and I wanted to have a career that was just as fulfilling as living my dream of playing professional rugby league. My Uncle Alan, a well-established financial adviser, got in contact with me early 2020 and said there may be an opportunity to work for him. He told me about the people and community he served and what he did at Leuluai Financial, and I knew this was a path I wanted to take after my final year of rugby league in the UK.
To be able to give our community financial advice and assist them reach their goals of buying their first home or protecting their families with insurance is really fulfilling and gives me purpose. Financial security, buying a home or safeguarding our families future are often in the back of the minds of our people but are not commonly talked about because they don’t know where to start or who can help. I know how important it is to have role-models around you with experience in making financial decisions and am grateful I am now in a position to be able to offer the same to my community.
Having been in the UK for the past 12 years sees me seeking the company of my family here in Auckland or up North in Ahipara and Whangaruru, being outdoors and reconnecting with my favourite beaches when I’m not in the office.
